Childhood friends to Champions: Two STL Natives Win National Titles

Former classmates Matthew Tkachuk and Jayson Tatum are bringing immense pride to their hometown of St. Louis, MO. Both have led their teams to securing national titles less than a week apart, creating a wave of celebration and admiration among STL fans.

Tkachuck and the Florida Panthers fought a long and hard playoff battle against the Edmonton Oilers, making it to Game 7 and finally claiming the championship, winning 2-1. The series showcased Tkachuk's grit and determination, as he played a pivotal role in securing the win for his team.

Meanwhile, the Boston Celtics just finished celebrating their 18th NBA Championship Title, after a 106-88 win against the Dallas Mavericks. Tatum scored 31 points, had 11 assists, eight rebounds and two steals across 45 minutes. His leadership and skill were instrumental in the Celtics' success.

Tkachuck and Tatum’s friendship started at Chaminade Prep School where both athletes aspired to play professionally in their respective sports. Tkachuck followed in his father’s footsteps in the NHL, eventually getting drafted by the Flames with the 6th pick in the 2016 NHL draft. A year later, Tatum was picked by the Celtics with the 3rd pick in the 2017 NBA draft.

The two have kept in touch since their high school days, and have supported each other during this monumental time in both of their lives. A video of Tatum wishing Tkachuk good luck went viral on social media, followed by a celebratory response video after the Game 7 win.

This marks a significant milestone in both of their careers, as it is both Tkachuk and Tatum's first championship victory. While these two athletes are away in Boston and Southern Florida, the people of STL still feel a deep connection to both of their victories.
